Terms, Disclaimers & Limitation of Liability
1. Pre-Existing Rock Chips & Surface Imperfections Under PPF
Customer acknowledges that Paint Protection Film is optically clear. Any pre-existing rock chips, scratches, touch-up paint blobs, or paint defects will remain visible beneath the film. Air or moisture may temporarily bridge over deep rock chip craters. Shop is not responsible for cosmetic imperfections in the underlying factory paint finish.
2. Non-OEM Repaint Adhesion & Film Removal Release
PPF and vinyl adhesive requires high initial tack. On vehicles with non-factory paint, aftermarket resprays, or poor clear coat adhesion, film repositioning during installation or future film removal may lift clear coat or paint. Shop is released from liability for paint delamination on non-OEM surfaces.
3. Relief Cuts, Seams, and Edge Wrapping Disclaimers
Due to the physical thickness of 8mil+ polyurethane film, complex concave curves (mirrors, deep bumper recesses, vents) may require discreet relief cuts, seams, or exposed edges to prevent film tension lifting. Customer accepts standard installer seam placement.
4. Prior Razor Blade Score Line Disclosure
When stripping old PPF or vinyl installed by third parties, pre-existing razor score lines in the clear coat or plastic trim are frequently revealed. Shop is not liable for paint cuts, score marks, or trim damage created by previous film installers.
5. 14-Day Edge Cure & Complimentary Check-Up Inspection
Customer agrees not to wash the vehicle for 7 days post-installation and never to direct high-pressure spray nozzles closer than 24 inches to film edges. Customer agrees to bring the vehicle in for a complimentary 14-day edge inspection to address any minor lifting.
Pre-Service Authorization & Assent
Customer agrees to pre-service condition log, certifies removal of personal property, and agrees to all liability terms stated above.
Post-Service Handover & Satisfaction
Customer confirms visual satisfaction on finished surfaces upon pickup, subject to standard 48-hour discovery window.

Why Auto Detailers Need Specialized Liability Agreements
Standard generic waivers fail in small claims court and merchant chargeback disputes. Here is what makes this contract defensible.
The "Washed Dirt" Legal Precedent
When heavy road contamination and wax are stripped during washing and claying, deep scratches and clear coat failure are exposed. Without an explicit Washed Dirt disclosure, customers often presume the detailer created the defect during polishing.
Two-Stage Verification (Intake + Pickup)
Signing only at intake leaves you vulnerable to claims after the customer leaves. Capturing a post-service handover signature locks in customer satisfaction upon vehicle key return and sets a strict 48-hour discovery window.
Limitation of Financial Liability
In the event of a dispute, this clause caps maximum financial damages to the actual dollar amount paid for the detailing package, preventing disproportionate claims against small shops.
Bailment & Property Release
Protects technicians from claims regarding sunglasses, cash, radar detectors, or firearms inadvertently left in gloveboxes or trunk storage during thorough interior extractions.
Paper Waivers vs. DetailSafe Digital Shield
Paper sheets are a good starting point, but mobile detailing in wet driveways demands faster, tamper-evident digital proof.

Questions About This Agreement
Why do PPF shops need a specific intake inspection sheet?
PPF installations run $2,000 to $8,000+. When customers pay high prices, they inspect every millimeter of their car upon delivery. If a rock chip creates a small silver air pocket under the film, they may claim you damaged their paint unless it was signed for during intake.
How do I protect my shop against clear coat peeling during film installation?
Clause #2 directly addresses aftermarket repainted panels. Body shop resprays rarely have the bake adhesion of factory OEM paint. Having the customer sign this release protects you from expensive respray claims.
