Terms, Disclaimers & Limitation of Liability
1. Paint Depth Readings & Clear Coat Preservation
Customer acknowledges that automotive paint consists of primer, base color, and a thin topcoat of clear coat (typically 35–50 microns). Shop utilizes digital electromagnetic paint depth gauges to measure total film thickness. Where paint depth is critically thin or uneven, Shop will prioritize long-term clear coat preservation over total scratch elimination.
2. RIDS (Random Isolated Deep Scratches) & Acid Etching Disclosure
Random Isolated Deep Scratches (RIDS), key gouges, and deep chemical acid etching that catch a fingernail have penetrated through the clear coat layer into the color coat. Polishing these defects flat would cause clear coat strike-through and paint failure. Customer accepts that such defects will be rounded and reduced, not completely eliminated.
3. Repainted Panels, Body Filler & Blended Clear Release
Non-factory repainted body panels, spot blends, and plastic bumpers often exhibit soft clear coat, solvent pop, or poor primer adhesion. Shop is not liable for paint delamination, edge flaking, or clear coat lifting on non-OEM repainted panels during compound leveling or tape removal.
4. Prior Swirl, Hologram & Sanding Mark Baseline
Customer acknowledges the presence of pre-existing rotary buffer swirls, sanding pigtails, wash scratches, and holograms mapped during the pre-service inspection. The agreed correction stage (1-Step Enhancement vs Multi-Stage Correction) will achieve the estimated percentage defect reduction specified on the intake report.
Pre-Service Authorization & Assent
Customer agrees to pre-service condition log, certifies removal of personal property, and agrees to all liability terms stated above.
Post-Service Handover & Satisfaction
Customer confirms visual satisfaction on finished surfaces upon pickup, subject to standard 48-hour discovery window.

Why Auto Detailers Need Specialized Liability Agreements
Standard generic waivers fail in small claims court and merchant chargeback disputes. Here is what makes this contract defensible.
The "Washed Dirt" Legal Precedent
When heavy road contamination and wax are stripped during washing and claying, deep scratches and clear coat failure are exposed. Without an explicit Washed Dirt disclosure, customers often presume the detailer created the defect during polishing.
Two-Stage Verification (Intake + Pickup)
Signing only at intake leaves you vulnerable to claims after the customer leaves. Capturing a post-service handover signature locks in customer satisfaction upon vehicle key return and sets a strict 48-hour discovery window.
Limitation of Financial Liability
In the event of a dispute, this clause caps maximum financial damages to the actual dollar amount paid for the detailing package, preventing disproportionate claims against small shops.
Bailment & Property Release
Protects technicians from claims regarding sunglasses, cash, radar detectors, or firearms inadvertently left in gloveboxes or trunk storage during thorough interior extractions.
Paper Waivers vs. DetailSafe Digital Shield
Paper sheets are a good starting point, but mobile detailing in wet driveways demands faster, tamper-evident digital proof.

Questions About This Agreement
Why is paint depth measurement documentation essential for detailers?
If a car was aggressively compounded by a previous detailer, the clear coat might only have 15 microns left. If you polish it and strike through to the basecoat, you could be blamed for a $5,000 respray. Documenting low paint gauge readings beforehand protects you completely.
What is the difference between a 1-step polish and multi-stage correction waiver?
Our waiver lets you specify realistic expectations. A 1-step enhancement typically eliminates 50-70% of light haze, whereas a multi-stage correction targets 85-95%. Documenting this prevents customers from expecting a 100% mirror finish from a budget polish.
